In order to maintain and enhance the beautiful appearance of your log cabin it is important that you apply the best possible wood preservative. All our cabins are delivered untreated, because any water based treatments will potentially cause the logs to swell, this would then prevent a perfect fit. We recommend treating the outside of the cabin within two weeks of installation.
Our recommendation is Jotun Butinox which has a unique, high solids resin formulation that offers increased coating flexibility, superior absorption and protection plus greater durability to withstand the natural movement of the timber. This highly translucent wood stain requires a two coat system which is ideal for treating new timber.
A one coat maintenance application of Jotun Butinox is recommended every 3-4 years to maintain the exterior of your log cabin.
Here’s a little bit about the Butinox range
Butinox 1 Translucent Stain
A translucent wood stain for out door use. It makes the beautiful grain of the cabins timber stand out, and contains oils that helps reduce the wood from cracking. The product has good penetration properties, and excellent wear resistance.
Butinox 2 Opaque Stain.
The content of long alkyd oils in these products results in optimal penetration and stabilising of weathered wood. The content of solvent allows application for cold/damp weather, allowing the natural movements (expansion and contraction) of the cabins wood, without peeling or flaking.
Butinox 3 Opaque Satin The special alkyd oil/acrylic binder combination provides a highly flexible coating, allowing the natural movements (expansion and contraction) of the cabins wood. High performance Opaque Satin finish, gives extended life may be applied over suitable, sound conventional paint systems.
