Frequently Asked Questions

Here to help you buy a log cabin.

Q. Are cabins pre-treated?
A.
Lillevilla and Luoman cabins are not pre-treated due to the nature of their construction and therefore need to be treated within 2 weeks of installation. We recommend treating both the inside and outside, as well as applying silicone in the outside corner joints for extra protection.

Q. What base is best for the cabin?
A.
A reinforced concrete slab with a minimum depth of 125mm is recommended for the base.

Q. Can I add extra windows and doors to the cabin?
A.
Extra windows and doors can be added at the time of ordering, they will however need to be cut into the building during installation.

Q. Is the wood from a sustainable source?
A.
Luoman take their responsibilities to the environment very seriously. After a lot of hard work, they have this year achieved certification from the Pan European Forestry Council (PEFC). It is also worth pointing out that 95% of all timber in Finland is considered to be certified.

Q. Will I need Planning permission for my Lillevilla Log Cabin?
A.
Planning permission is not required for our cabins providing:

  • No outbuilding on land forward of a wall forming the principal elevation.
  • Outbuildings and garages to be single storey with maximum eaves height of 2.5 metres and maximum overall height of four metres with a dual pitched roof or three metres for any other roof.
  • Maximum height of 2.5 metres in the case of a building, enclosure or container within two metres of a boundary of the curtilage of the dwelling house.
  • No more than half the area of land around the "original house"* would be covered by additions or other buildings.
  • You do not live in a conservation area or listed building.
  • Many planning authorities regard timber buildings as having a low impact on the environment but should you have any doubts it is always wise to check with your local authority or log on to www.planningportal.gov.uk.
